Mission creep...
Like a lot o fowk roond here ah ken next tae bugger aw aboot Mali. Ah ken where it is, like, an Timbuktu's there ah ken that, but that's it. Why we're even sendin sodjers there ah've nae idea they say they're jist gaun there tae watch, but like a lot o fowk ah'm worried that they might jist be gaun there tae watch but ye ken whit sodjers are like yince they see a fight they jist want tae join in they cannae help it it's whit they dae efter aw... so, like a lot o fowk ah'm worried aboot mission creep, aboot gettin drawn in, the mair we talk aboot the war in Mali it becomes oor war in Mali ken? the mair we discuss it the mair real it becomes...
An that's whit's pittin the Unionist neb oot o joint th'day, we're makin it aw become real the mair we talk aboot it. The mair we discuss the mechanics o how Scotland becomes an independent nation, the mair real that 'new' Scottish nation becomes...
The Westminster Government disnae want tae hae talks wi the Scottish Government aboot whit happens in the event o a Yes vote cos that involves bringin the 'Constitutional Commissioners' oanstage, this body, these people, these brains, whitever... ah imagine it'll be people an no jist actual brains but are ye wi me? The step forrit th'day wis that (inevitably) an independent electoral body said that in a modern democratic country like oors, there's a proper way tae dae these things an that means that we aw hae tae prepare fer the fact that maist o us might want independence. We aw hae tae accept that. Ma government has tae accept that. That is tae say ma government in London, Cameron's government, has tae accept it. The UK has tae act in ma best interest, in oor best interest, an prepare fer the fact that we in Scotland might vote Yes in Autumn 2014. We want oor government tae at the very least provide some idea, some certainty aboot oor future road, whether that coincides wi theirs or no...
An so they hae tae show us that road, whit it'll look like, whit's oan it? who negotiates? wi who? when? where?
They hae tae agree aw that wi the Scottish Government, an in agreein it they make it that bit mair real, an they take us that bit further doon that very road. That's whit ah cry mission creep...an it's excitin...

It is exciting. Great leap forward today (especially if it brought you out of the coal shed to write something again). of course the unionists are saying its a humiliation for Salmond to have his question changed and his funding arrangements doubled... They really don't understand anything, do they? It makes you smile to see him walk all over them.
ReplyDeleteI think the mission creep is probably Philip Hammond. He's certainly a creep, but then, I suppose you could say that of all his colleagues too. They certainly all make my flesh creep!

Hi Sophia totally agree it's an exciting time. I remember listening to Radio Scotland a few years back when the policy was to completely ignore the SNP. It was the nationalists biting at Labour's heels but they only spoke about the Tories as if they were the threat to Labour.
ReplyDeleteNow all you hear is referendum this, Scottish Government that. It's fantastic. They've gone from attempting to airbrush the SNP out of existence by denying them the oxygen of publicity to being forced to talk not just about them but about independence on a daily basis.
The more we hear about it the more ordinary and inevitable it seems......

Yes. You're absolutely right with that Sophia. The cybernats are voluble because the main stream media is unionist. And it's unionist because the papers are owned by English companies (except DC Thomson, and they are Tory and have always loathed the SNP).
ReplyDeleteThe only way for the message to get out is to blog it, and hope that it spreads bit by bit. Of course most of the people who read the pro indy blogs and pro indy, but not all of them. And if in reading the blog, and so often the informed comments on it, some of the facts are explained, and some answers given, then the reader can go the the pub, or work, or wherever, and use his/her new-found knowledge to enlighten further...
It's all good, especially brilliantly written and researched blogs like Scot goes Pop and Wings over Scotland. We're going to owe people like James and the Rev Stu big time when we win...
Ah agree wi ye there tris, the difficult thing these days is actually keepin up wi aw the great stuff that's bein written (needless tae say little o it's bein printed oan paper!)

Ah tell them NewsnetScotland, ah tell them #indyref, ah tell them WingsOverScotland, ah tell them tae hae a quick look an come back tae me...

In fact ah'm nivver awfy far awa, usually ah'm jist in the tab next door, the yin marked Twitter, ah ken it can be a rough joint an gey noisy at times, in fact some o the rammies the break oot, oooh... an the language wid curl yer hair... but it's got a 24-hour licence, it's aye busy, ye dinnae half get a laugh some nichts, an they aye keep ma seat fer me... it's a bar-stool as ye might imagine... gies me a sair back but...

Which wid seem tae me tae be the only thing that makes me a cyber-nat. Look at it like this. I sometimes pop into Twitter but don't like being confined to a few words when I want to write a hundred odd. Having said that we need more of your hysterical - (is that how you spell historical?) - posts on here as your readership hang on to your every word so get off that Twitter and come back to us.
